The Rotary Club of Modbury Golden Grove is delighted to be able to support and encourage Courtnie Caldinez in her imminent journey to Laos.

Courtnie writes:

In January 2016 I will be travelling to Laos with the Volunteer Eco Students Abroad (VESA) program.  Whilst I am there I will visit Vientane, Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng and take part in an important sustainable community development and Elephant rehabilitation project.  We will work in conjunction with the Elephant Conservation Centre in Sayaboury and in the local schools.

I want to thank the Modbury Rotary Club for their donation as it will help to facilitate the means for implementing this major community development project which will encompass construction in addition to educating the community on matters of conservation, sustainability, health/hygiene and English proficiency.

Your community has, with their generous donation, directly assisted with the costs involved in participating in the program.  These costs are significant and include hiring local skilled trades people to supervise and assist in the building projects, building materials and donations to local organisations.  Every volunteer will complete a minimum of 40 hours of hands on community based volunteer work.

I look forward to returning and sharing with you my trip.  I am very excited.

Thanks once again for all of your support and for allowing me to “be a gift to the world”.

Our support contribution was presented by President Rob to Courtnie at our meeting on 26 October 2015.  We wish her well in her work in Laos and acknowledge the many hours work that she has already put into our fundraising BBQ’s at Stratco.

Thank you and bon voyage, Courtnie.  We look forward to hearing about your adventure.
