Christmas Hampers
Thank You Otto & Derek who delivered 25 Christmas Hampers to the Tea Tree Gully Salvation Army. This is an important contribution to our local community that we do every year!
Golden Grove High School awarded this year’s Student of the Year Award to Emmanuel Wary.
He was a very popular winner of the school. Two and a half years ago he was in a Refugee Camp in Uganda for 3 years. Since then he has excelled in his schooling at Golden Grove High School. He excelled at school in sport, especially in cricket and football (soccer), and he hopes to forge a career in professional sport, such as Kusini Yengi, who plays for Adelaide United. Yengi, is a cousin of one of our ex-members, Ben Yengi OAM, who also hailed from the Sudan via Refugee Camps to Australia. Emmanuel second choice of a career is in Mechanical Engineering and Metal Work in general. The family is quite heavily involved in the local Sudanese Community.
Our club is proud to meet and support such an amazing person and local hard working student, we wish him the best in his future.
Lift the Lid on Mental Illness is Australian Rotary Health’s overarching campaign brand for mental health research.
The campaign, founded by Past ARH Chairman Gregory Ross, started in 2016 in partnership with Rotary Clubs of Victoria. The events were such a success that it has now been extended to all Rotary Clubs across Australia.
Each year approximately 1-in-5 Australians will experience a mental illness and in order to help future generations of young Australians, we need to look ahead through research and find out how we can prevent this type of illness occurring.

Atafeh Jouhari, gave a great presentation on the RYLA Course she recently attended. Before she entered the course she used to put a lot of pressure on herself, and the course taught her how to relax and enjoy life. She made a lot of friends and her confidence grew, it was an uplifting experience for her. She thanked Rotary for giving her that experience, and she hopes to connect with Rotary in the future.
